Australia to Acquire Three Ghost Shark Extra-Large Autonomous Undersea Vessels

Cutting-Edge Technology for the Royal Australian Navy

Canberra and Anduril Industries Sign Agreement

In a significant development for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN), the Australian government has signed an agreement with Anduril Industries to expedite the acquisition of three Ghost Shark extra-large autonomous undersea vessels (XLUUVs). This acquisition marks a major step forward in Australia's defense capabilities, as these vessels represent the most advanced autonomous underwater technology available worldwide.

The Ghost Shark XLUUVs are designed to perform a wide range of missions, including intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR), and mine countermeasures. Their large size allows them to carry a significant payload, enabling them to deploy sensors, weapons, and other equipment for extended periods.

The RAN's acquisition of the Ghost Shark XLUUVs is part of a broader effort to modernize its naval capabilities. The vessels will enhance the Navy's ability to protect Australia's maritime interests in the Indo-Pacific region, where undersea warfare is becoming increasingly important.
